I RELEASE THEE -a poem
From my loving arms, I release thee, you need my arms no more-
I held on for as long, my love, until my muscles tore-
From my longing gaze, I release thee, I turn my eyes away-
Erratic was your movement but my eyes would never stray-
I release thee from my dreams, hopes, plans, wishes and ambition-
The man you had that loved you so, he acts on his volition-
From my protective wings, I release thee. Your shelter is but wind-
You ripped my wings away with pride, I'm sure they'll never mend-
From the warmth of my kiss, I release thee, your lips will remain cold-
Your lips would part to shame me, whilst I give you a kiss of gold-
I release thee from my thoughts, prayers, choices, days and nights-
You've taken trust and slayed it so to me you have no rights-
From shame I do release thee, I hold no grudge or hate-
You clamber now to reclaim love, the hour now draws late-
So from my life, I release thee, I need not cross your mind-
I release myself from you, my dear and I leave it all behind-
